Abstract: |
In this paper, a starch-sodium silicate compound system was employed as a surface sizing agent to improve the strength of corrugating medium. The viscosity of the compound system and the impact of the system on ring-crush strength and bursting strength of corrugating medium were studied, and Cobb value was used to characterize the waterproof performance of the surface sized paper. Compared with conventional surface sizing agents, a higher sizing load could be realized by using the compound system and therefore a much higher stiffness of paper could be achieved. The ring-crush and bursting strength of corrugating medium were increased by up to 80% and 51% respectively. |
