Abstract: |
In order to endow bamboo fiber antibacterial property, chitosan was used as the antibacterial finishing agent to prepare cellulose-chitosan graft copolymer, using K2S2O8 and Na2S2O3 as a redox system to directly initiate chitosan grafting with cellulose to prepare antibacterial materials. The grafting conditions and their impacts on grafting rate of the cellulose and grafting efficiency of the chitosan were discussed. Under the optimal conditions, the graft copolymer was characterized by Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy and antibacterial activity test. It was discovered that the surface morphology of bamboo fibers was significantly altered and its antibacterial property was also greatly improved. The antibacterial activity properties on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were achieved up to 97.00% and 99.91% respectively. |
