Abstract:
      Nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC), a rod-shaped nanoscale material prepared from abundant, inexpensive and renewable biomass, has become the hotspot of material and polymer science. Three main ways for preparing NCC including physical-mechanical, chemical and biological methods were summarized. Owing to the exceptional strength, structural and physicochemical properties, NCC has important applications in the areas of reinforced composites, biomedicine, optical and electronic materials, catalysis and etc. Finally, the future development of NCC was prospected.
