Abstract:
A cellulase was used to pre-treat bleached softwood kraft pulp (BSKP) in present study, the changes of fiber morphology, freeness of pulp in refining and paper properties were investigated, and the effects of enzymatic pretreatment on refining and paper properties were studied. The results showed that when the BSKP was pre-treated by the cellulase, fiber surface was of hairiness, fiber length decreased, and the fines content increased, which was similar to the effect of refining. When enzymatic pre-treated BSKP refined at PFI mill for 5000 r or 10000 r, the pulp freeness decreased with the enzyme dosage increasing. Enzymatic pretreatment could save refining energy significantly, but the pretreated fibers were easier to be cut in refining. Appropriate enzymatic pretreatment and refining could increase the physical strength of the paper. Comparing to the control samples, the paper tensile index improved by 54.6%, 60.3% and 48.5% when the pulps were pre-treated with enzyme dosage of 0.01 U/g and the pulps were refined for 500 r, 2000 r, and 5000 r in PFI mill respectively.
