Abstract: |
In order to improve the bonding between diatomite filler and lignocellulosic fiber, diatomite particles were coated with a complex which was prepared with starch and fatty acid. The coating efficiency of starch on diatomite particle surfaces was investigated by measuring the dissolved starch in the supernatant. The experimental results indicated that more than 98% of the applied starch was precipitated onto the surface of the fillers. At a dosage of 10% of the modified filler, the retention of the modified filler was higher than 73%, and the modified filler had relatively good resistance against moderate shear force. The morphology, particle size, and Zeta potential of the modified filler were also determined with scanning electron microscopy, OMEC particle size analyzer, and Zhongchen Zetasizer, respectively. |
