Abstract: |
The degradation of guaiacol, the model compound of guaiacol lignin by Fenton-like oxidation catalyzed with vermiculite was studied. The characteritics of ground and unground vermiculite were analyzed by EDS, SEM and scattering laser particle analyzer. EDS analysis showed that the mass content of iron in vermiculite was about 13.6%~20.5%, SEM images showed that there were many micro pores in the lamellar structure of vermiculite, and the size test showed that the particle size decreased while specific area increased when the vermiculite was ground. A series of experiments were conducted to investigate the influence of oxidation condition on the degradation of guaiacol, such as vermiculite dosage, H2O2 dosage, initial pH of reaction system and the initial concentration of guaiacol solution. The removal rate of guaiacol almost reached 100% within 180 min at pH=3 when the dosage of H2O2 and vermiculite were 1.3 mmol/L and 2.0 g/L, respectively. Comparing with the conventional Fenton-process, the advantages of Fenton-like oxidation catalyzed by vermiculite included using less H2O2 dosage, the catalyst vermiculite is less expensive and easy to obtain, and its resource is rich. |
