Abstract: |
The optimum conditions for synthesis of cationic soy protein isolate (CSPI) were studied and they were found as follows: reaction temperature 70℃, reaction time 4 h, reaction system pH value 10.0, molar ratio of soy protein isolate (SPI) and cationic reagent (EPTA) 1∶1.1. The chemical structure and physical property of CSPI were analyzed by FT-IR and TGA, respectively. The results revealed that EPTA was successfully grafted onto the amino groups of SPI. The good thermal stability of CSPI enabled it to be used as papermaking additive. The pulp drainage, fines retention and sheet strength were improved significantly when CSPI was used as wet end additive. The microstructure of the sheet was analyzed by SEM. It was found that the fiber bonding was more tightly. |
