Abstract: |
Progresses in synthesis technologies and development activities of wet-strength agents for papermaking were reviewed. The paper focused on the effect of the environmentally friendly wet-strength agents, including polyamideamine-epichlorohydrin (PAE), carboxylmethyl celluloses (CMC) and modified chitosan, on the wet strength property of the paper and the corresponding mechanisms. The application of polycarboxylic acids, cationic starch, nanocrystalline cellulose, and sodium alginate, as well as their advantages and disadvantages were introduced. Finally the future research direction of wet-strength agents was discussed. |
