Abstract: |
This paper mainly introduced the mechanical, thermodynamic and antibacterial properties of spherical magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticle reinforced chitosan composite film prepared by in situ synthesis of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)/magnesium carbonate prepolymer. When the content of MgO nanoparticles was 5 wt%, the tensile stress and elastic modulus of chitosan/MgO composite film increased by 64% and 50%, respectively, reaching the optimal values. The FT-IR spectrum indicated that the improvement of mechanical properties was mainly due to the hydrogen bond interaction between the hydroxyl and amine groups on chitosan and MgO. In addition, after adding 5 wt% MgO nanoparticles, the oxygen permeability of chitosan composite film was reduced by ~18% and 46% of E. coli was destroyed or killed within 12 h, showing excellent antibacterial performance. |
