Abstract:
Caustic soda-anthraquinone alkaline pulping was carried out using core stalks of breeding hemp and fiber-field hemp as raw materials, and effect of alkali amount on the pulping properties was investigated. The results showed that the brown pulp yield and potassium permanganate value gradually decreased while cellulose content and water retention value increased with increasing alkali amount. The brown pulp yields of core stalks of breeding hemp and fiber-field hemp were 48.3% and 56.8%, potassium permanganate values 11.0 and 13.9, respectively, when alkali amount was 20%; both pulp showed decent yield and properties. The two hemp core stalk fibers with length of 1~3 mm moderately improved physical properties of paper when respectively mixed (amount of 5%) with softwood pulp fibers (beating degree = 40 °SR). Therefore, the as-prepared hemp core stalk pulp can be used as an alternative raw material for producing cardboard top layer or kraft paper, etc.
