Abstract:
Using bleached softwood pulp as the fiber raw material and surfactants as foaming agents, a foam-molded paper with basis weight of (100±2) g/m2 was prepared by foam forming technology and flat drying method. The foaming properties of three surfactants like sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether (AEO-9) were investigated, as well as their effects on paper properties. The results showed that the three surfactants exhibited different foaming characteristics, with optimal foaming concentrations of 1.0 g/L for AEO-9, 0.5 g/L for CTAB, and 1.5 g/L for SDS. At pulp beating degree of 20 °SR, the paper prepared by foam forming with AEO-9 showed that the evenness index increased from 51.9 to 85.2, and the bulk increased from 3.95 to 5.43, with increase of 64.2% and 37.5%, respectively, compared to traditional formed paper.
