Abstract:
To investigate the influencing factors on the retention performance of calcium carbonate in reconstituted tobacco sheets, this study employed CO₂-treated ion chromatography to measure the calcium carbonate content in base sheets produced via different papermaking processes. Subsequently, the study analyzed the effects of calcium carbonate addition ratio, fiber beating degree, pulp blending process, and other factors on calcium carbonate retention and the physical properties of the base sheets. The results showed that as the calcium carbonate addition ratio increased from 5% to 20%, its retention rate dropped by 58.7%. Meanwhile, compared to base sheets without calcium carbonate addition, the bulk rose by 7.3%, while the tensile index declined by 13.1%. As the proportion of tobacco fine pulp in the tobacco pulp blend rose from 10% to 90%, the calcium carbonate retention rate decreased by 23.1%. When the beating degree of the tobacco pulp increased from 23 °SR to 71 °SR, the calcium carbonate retention rate rose by 54.9%. As the addition ratio of external fibers increased from 0 to 20%, the calcium carbonate retention rate improved by 29.5%; when the beating degree of external fibers increased from 26 °SR to 76 °SR, the calcium carbonate retention rate first increased and then decreased. As the guar gum addition ratio increased from 0 to 0.3%, the calcium carbonate retention rate surged by 236.1%, while the bulk and tensile index of the base sheets decreased by 5.7% and 28.1%, respectively. Additionally, as the basis weight of the base sheets increased from 48.7 g/m² to 84.4 g/m², the calcium carbonate retention rate first rose and then declined, the bulk dropped by 36.8%, and the tensile index increased by 46.6%.
