Abstract:
      The chitosan graft copolymer used as surface sizing agent was prepared by soap-free emulsion polymerization with styrene(St), butylacrylate(BA), N-hydroxymethyl acrylamide(HMAM) and dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride (DMDAAC) as major monomers in oxidation-reduction initiator system. The copolymer was characterized with infrared spectrum(FT-IR), static contact angle and SEM. The optimum synthesis conditions are as follows: m(monomer)/m(chitosan)=25, m(St)/m(BA)=2.5, m(KPS)/m(chitosan)=3.0, m(FeSO4)/m(H2O2)=0.03, and HMAM dosage 6%. The application experiment results demonstrated that when the dosage of surface sizing agent is 0.4%, the paper can achieve the best performance.
